Uncle Jerri Abdullah is a highly respected Elder, mentor, and community leader, widely recognised for his lifelong commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Lived and raised in Adelaide (Kaurna Yerta), Uncle Jerri has dedicated much of his life—both professionally and personally—to empowering communities and creating meaningful change. With over 40 years of experience in drug and alcohol support services, he has worked extensively across metropolitan, regional, and remote areas, including the APY Lands. His work has been guided in part by the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.
Throughout his career, Uncle Jerri has supported individuals experiencing homelessness and those involved in the justice system, helping them access secure housing, education, and long-term employment opportunities. He has served as an advocate within the Nunga Community , Youth, Magistrates, and Supreme Courts, and continues to provide guidance and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people navigating these systems.
Beyond this, Uncle Jerri has contributed to strengthening rural communities by helping to attract and retain doctors in underserved areas. He is also a Justice of the Peace in South Australia and played a key role in establishing a private school that continues to operate today reflecting his strong commitment to education and future generations.
At the heart of Uncle Jerri’s work is a deep passion for seeing Aboriginal people grow, thrive, and achieve their goals.
A proud father and grandfather, Uncle Jerri enjoys bushwalking, cricket, football, cooking, and is a dedicated supporter of the Port Adelaide Football Club.
